Fixed dental appliance
A fixed appliance is a type of appliance that is placed in the mouth 24 hours a day, making the treatment procedure very effective. Fixed appliance treatment lasts 1-2 years, which is usually followed by a maintenance phase to prevent the defect from returning.
It includes rings or cannulas on the molars and locks on the front surfaces of the teeth. Orthodontic wires are inserted into these and replaced during treatment. In most cases, both the upper and lower jaw are treated with a fixed appliance to achieve normoocclusion, i.e. a correct bite. The correct bite of the teeth will ensure the long-term stability of the treatment result and the correct function of the dentition.
How does it work with us?
1. Consultation (15min)
After an examination of the teeth, the patient learns whether a fixed appliance is the right type of appliance for them. We will discuss the patient's expectations of jaw orthopaedic treatment and its realistic options.
2. Initial examination (60min)
We take X-rays, photos and scans of the patient's teeth, based on which the doctor analyzes the patient's defect and develops a treatment plan.
3. Evaluation (30min)
We will explain the analysis of x-rays, photos and scans and treatment options with the patient.
4. Fixed apparatus deployment (30min)
In this visit, we glue the typewriter to both jaws: We clean the teeth, glue locks, rings or cannulas on the teeth and insert a wire. The patient receives a hygiene briefing while wearing the machine and receives an ortho packet from us with all the dental hygiene supplies. You may also receive a Dental Monitoring Scanbox with instructions on how to scan.
5. Check-ups (15-30min)
At this stage, we check that the treatment is going according to the treatment plan. The frequency of check-ups is individual, about once every 2-3 months the arches / wires / are replaced.
6. Removal of fixed apparatus (45min)
We will remove locks, cannulas, rings, take photographs, scans, x-rays and impressions of the teeth and have maintenance retention splints fabricated.
7. Handover of retention apparatus (10min)
The retention/maintenance phase of treatment lasts 2x as long as the treatment where the patient wears the retention splint overnight. After this time, the retention splint is worn overnight 1x per week. Follow-ups in the retention/maintenance phase are every 3 months after removal over a 1-year period.
